Cornmeal / Mkka Flour Upma Recipe

Upma is a healthy breakfast but if you are looking for a more healthy version of upma with super nutrients then you should opt for the cornmeal or mkka flour upma.

Ingredients:
  • Dry Roasted Maize or Makka Flour (Golden brown in color) - Half Cup
  • Water - 1 Cup
  • Fried Peanuts
  • Chopped Vegetables of yours choice - Half cup
  • Ghee – 2 to 3 tbsp
  • Asafoetida – 1 pinch
  • Mix of cumin seeds & mustard seeds
  • Salt - Around 1 Spoon
  • Grated Ginger
  • Few Curry Leaves
Instructions:
  • In a pan, heat ghee. Add cumin seeds and mustard seeds.
  • Now add asafoetida, ginger, curry leaves & chopped vegetables. Saute well. Add water now.
  • When water is boiled, add roasted maize/makka flour into it and keep stirring constantly so that there are no lumps in it.
  • Cook till you get thick consistency & all water evaporates. Now add roasted peanuts & mix well.
  • Taste best when served hot.
  • NOTE: Always measure the quantity of water & maize flour with the same cup. We need to maintain the ratio to get non sticky upma.
  • You can add chopped onion too if you like.
