How to Keep Paneer Fresh

Cottage cheese (Paneer) contains lactobacillus. It is because of this bacteria that paneer tastes sour if it is not properly refrigerated. Warmth fastens the action of bacteria and so it is advised to store paneer in cold water or a refrigerator.

We buy paneer in large quantity but we do not use the entire paneer in a single time so how can we keep the remaining paneer fresh?

You can take a bowl and keep the Paneer submerged in plain normal water. Note that the Paneer should be submerged in water completely. This can help it retain its freshness for almost 8 to 9 days when refrigerated. The water prevents Paneer from getting sour.

  1. The water should be changed every other day. If you don't change, the water itself will spoil the Paneer.

  2. The bowl (prefer a glass bowl) should be kept in refrigerator. No need to keep it in the freezer.

  3. Cover the bowl with a lid. Do not keep it open.
