International Women Day: A day when women are recognised for their achievements without regard to divisions, whether national, ethnic, linguistic, cultural, economic or political.

A balanced world is a better world for women. It is very important for women to take care of herself when she alone takes care of the entire family. While eating healthy is essential for both men and women, they have different dietary requirements.

Women have special nutrient needs, and, during each stage of a woman's life, these needs change. The food and drink choices a woman make every day affect her health now and later in life. Choosing healthy foods and drinks more often can help prevent or manage many health problems that affect woman. When a woman eats healthy, everyone in her household is more likely to eat healthy.

Here are some foods that every woman must include in her diet:

  1. Iron rich foods: spinach, dark leafy greens, legumes and fortified milk

  2. Vitamin C: oranges, red and green peppers, pineapple, strawberries, chilli peppers, broccoli, cauliflower, mango

  3. Protein rich: eggs, yoghurt, soya, pistachio nuts 

  4. Fibre-rich: Flax seeds, oats, nuts, seeds and wholegrain bread and cereal

  5. Fresh foods: potatoes, avocado, broccoli and raspberries

  6. Magnesium rich: nuts, seeds, mushrooms, chickpeas, spinach, kale and asparagus

  7. B vitamins: whole grains, eggs and dairy products, barley

  8. Good carbs: Oats, brown rice, fruits, fibrous veggies, lentils and strawberries
